Perspective is defined as; the state of existing in space before the eye, the state of one’s ideas, the facts known to one, the faculty of seeing all the relevant data in a meaningful relationship, a mental view or prospect.
The way we choose to react to day to day situations are based on habitual patterns of personal response infused by our perspective at the time. It is very important to not just fixate solely on your reactions but instead move to cultivate awareness of everything that is happening in that moment in time.
Our reaction to a particular situation should not be a singled out focus. When we fixate on our reactions it pulls us away from the primary experience of what is actually happening. In an instant when we allow our habitual patterns based on perspective drive, it cause a shift to instantly move from the wide angle panoramic camera view to an extreme close up view with a single microscopic perspective. In this extreme close up view we are removed from the larger picture and placed into a small room where how we think and feel about the experience becomes the most important thing, the only thing we can focus on, the thing we are now in relationship with.
If we take a few minutes to pull the camera back for a wider view, it is immediately apparent that a reaction like the one we are providing is only one of many that could be experienced in any given moment in that situation. So much more is happening. So much more is causing our response to the situation.
We need to stay mindful before we respond to any situation. Every reaction needs the situation to be put into perspective before the habitual response that has been deeply ingrained in us can be overcome or resized in relevance to see the given situation in its entirety.
A simple tweek in the right direction. Awesome Karen
I am not sure that in every situation, having a point of view or a theory that is singular and personal, is necessarily a problem. While I see your point and the many problems of the world we face because we do not see the wider angle view. I like to look at the details from specific perspectives which are most likely personal to me. I wonder sometimes if my personal, detailed view with my big telescopic lens helps me to see something small that might help solve a problem or see beauty where it was previously absent. Of course, I am playing devil’s advocate here. It would be interesting to take your theory through a test and evaluate some issues based on it. We could look both at the wide angle and telescopic seeing if there is value in keeping our view more general. It could turn out to be a thesis but the results would also work to change a great deal. Whatever the results, I love your thinking and I like what you are thinking about.
Lisa – Thank you for taking the time to read/respond to my post. I can see and appreciate your comments.
My overall purpose for this post topic was to bring awareness to what we “think” is happening. I have learned that before one jumps to a preconceived notion triggered by a belief, resulting in a hasty response/action, it might server us better to gathering more information. a.k.a widen our view point on things so we can determine what is truly happening – not what we think we see is happening.
That way we ensure a decision that is soul affirming NOT soul sucking!
